Thumbs Up YouTube!
Jun 28th
I have been under a rock for a while I guess. I just cruised around YouTube and learned some things that I must have missed.
- I have revenue sharing on my account. I don’t plan to use it, but it’s there. I can put Google ads into my videos. Cool. Don’t worry, i’m not using it. hehe…
- They have much more custom settings for your account. i added some cheesy Mobilitysite graphics to all my pages on YouTube.
- Holy Crap. I can upload files up to 1gb now. THAT IS SWEET. So, since I am lucky enough to have a legacy YouTube account that let’s me upload videos longer than 10 minutes, they won’t all be so grainy. I hope at least. I am uploading a video right now that I forgot to put online 2 months ago in a better resolution to test.
Kudos YouTube. One of the reasons I continue to use Youtube as opposed to the other services out there that have better video quality is the community behind YouTube. Now that better videos can be uploaded, it should be a win/win.
Thanks Google…

Thanks Google for making it easier to use your online services.
The other day, I got a message when logging in to Google Adsense. It asked me if I wanted to merge this login into another Google account. I was very happy to see that. I had like 4 different logins across several Google services. 30 minutes later, I have one login to access Google Reader, Gmail, Google Analytics, and Google Adsense. It makes life much easier. Thanks for the prompting Google.
Congrats Barry Bonds

Unless you live under a rock, you’d know that Barry surpassed Hank Aaron for the All Time Home Run record a couple of nights ago. Some say congrats, some shun his accomplishment, some are calling for an asterisk. I say congrats.
I don’t give a shit if he’s taken steroids. Steroids don’t steal bases, steroids don’t make your hand/eye coordination better, steroids don’t make you see the ball better. If they ever prove he did take steroids, I would love to see proof of the time frame. My guess would be 2001 timeframe if ever. Do I think he hasn’t taken them? I am not sure, but given the amount of players that have taken, I am not really concerned.
I am just happy to see this record be broken. Not to see Hank lose the record, just to get all the attention over with. I love baseball, but I was tired of hearing about the chase.
If you didn’t know, I have his 312th Home Run ball. ( Link to Photo )
Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

I have given away so many things in the last 4 years, I forgot what it was like to win a contest myself!!! Today, that changed and now I feel giddy like a school girl!!!
Thanks to you guys for the help and thanks to Palm for the contest, I am now the proud owner of my choice of Palm Treo Devices!
Do I get the orange Treo 680 for my wife or do I get myself the Treo 750?

2007 Bloggies
Jan 6th
Since everyone is jumping off this bridge, I will too! The 2007 Bloggies are open for nominations now. They are open until 10:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5) on Wednesday, January 10, 2005… hehe… 2007, think the guys messed up a bit there.
Now you could nominate Mobility Site, Chris.Leckness.com, or even Jack’s blog – Experience Mobility or you could nominate your own. I am asking for a Mobility Site nomination, but I do not a) expect you to or b) even make the vote page. We work very hard here, but let’s be realistic, this site and many others don’t have a snowballs chance up against the big boys, some of which are paid blogs with corporate backing. Am I bitter, of course not, I cherish this site, but I don’t realisticly see a category where we are better than any others. We strive to be great, but most of our lovely staff here all have day jobs and can’t do it like the big boys.
Instead, I am going to list my nominations in the categories that I feel qualified to nominate in….
Best Web Application for Weblogs – Flickr, Digg, and Blogger.com
Best American Weblog – Boing Boing, Consumerist
Best Computers or Technology Weblog - Engadget, Gizmodo, and Mobility Site (ok, the token pimp my blog nomination)
Weblog of the Year – Consumerist, Engadget, Lifehacker
I will post a reminder when the votes go live, make sure to vote for your favorites!
Just for your info, if you wondered, here are my favorite blogs. For Gadgets, you can’t go wrong with Engadget or Gizmodo, there are some other newer gadget blogs too, but many of them are just replicating content, not that it’s a bad thing, we do it too! We do have a decent amount of original content stemming from Press Events, Releases, Tips, and out own experiences. General Blogs that I love are Scobelizer, Chris Pirillo, JK on the Run (love Kevin’s original takes), Josh Bancroft when he is hard at it /wink, I enjoy Crunch Gear (used to like it more, but still good), and I really enjoy reading what Calacanis and Mark Cuban have to say. I subscribe to over 600 RSS feeds and I read most of them, some I let pile up for a rainy day, some every couple hours.
One more thing… A Bloggies Prediction - Either Engadget Mobile or EngadgetHD will win “Best New Weblog” this year.
Mark Cuban? When do you work?

haha. I wonder when this guy works? He is constantly posting LONG, well thought out, blog posts of interest. In the past week, this guy has taken too much of my time. His posts are quite interesting!
The most recent is about YouTube, it’s a good read!
“Whats interesting is that Gootube has gone corporate. Its primary application is to host commercials. Commercials for TV shows. Commercials for Products. Commercials for cheesy websites. Gootube may host a bunch of user generated content, but thats not what people look at.”
What makes me tick? Warm Fuzzies!

When I started Aximsite almost 4 years ago, I planned to have a place to share what I learn in my move into a new breed of PDAs. Aximsite evolved faster than I ever hoped or imagined. I learned a lot about hosting a popular site and the pitfalls that came with it, high dollar servers, more maintenance, and tons of emails. I don’t really feel that I am doing a super duper job at keeping the entire community happy, but I do what I can. I branched out a little into some other areas and realized that I was over extending myself and pulled back a little. I decided to concentrate on only a couple sites and this has worked out well. Sometimes I get burned out, but I always come back firing. I never wanted to leave my day job to run the sites and still have no desire to so. I am the type person that likes stability and I don’t want to worry about where my families next meal will come from based on my websites revenue.
Anyhow, I am rambling… moving on.
I started out building sites as hobby in 1997 or so and nothing was ever visited as much as Aximsite. When my wife saw me building Aximsite, she complained and said, “not another website”. I told her that I would do this one as long as my hosting didn’t come out of pocket and if I got a couple free cases for my Axim, i’d be content. Well, I got that and a little more, but I paid hosting out of pocket for a while. Within 3 months, hosting of Aximsite went from $40/mo to $200/mo but at that time something I had never had happen before happened…. I had companies contacting me offering money for ads!!! Problem solved.
Moving forward I pay a lot more than $200/mo for hosting now and thanks to sponsors, it’s all covered. Since I don’t rely on income from my sites to support my family, I don’t really run the business as a business. Some friends and fellow webmasters tell me I am making a mistake by not monetizing better, but I don’t care… As long as it still feels like a hobby, hobbies aren’t taken up to make money. (At least I don’t think they are)
All this rambling leads up to a PM I got yesterday on Mobilitysite from one of the original Aximsite members that I am still glowing inside about. It is comments like this (Below) that just make me feel all good inside.
“I’ve loved reading Mobility Site, though; your video reviews of the Zune I watched in the last two weeks were better than anything I have seen. I learned more about the Zune watching them then I have from anything else I have seen – everybody else is either way too critical in completely silly ways, or way too “fan boy”.”
Being a Microsoft MVP, being invited to the Mobius events, getting linked from other websites…. These are all great, but pale in comparison to a nice comment like this. I get these here and there and they all make me feel great, but sometimes some of them stand out more than others.
Another Ironic PayPal Adventure
Nov 30th
Minutes after posting that item about Phishing for Paypal, I received a call from Paypal Security. The real Paypal too. This is the second time I received a call from them. The 1st was last year when I changed my usage pattern of my Paypal Debit card from local gas stations and grocery stores to a spending spree in Vegas. The called to make sure I was the one on this spending spree. That is really nice!
Today, they called to check on the bulk of uses this week. I have purchased a $2k HD TV, a couple phones, and last night a nice hefty Wal Mart charge for the Xbox 360 and games, etc…
I am on the phone right now ordering a phone for my Mom for Christmas, I will use my Paypal debit for it too! I would tell you all what I am getting her, but she reads this crap sometimes.
Anyhow, Kudos Paypal for checking in on me! It makes me feel better about the use of Paypal. (not that I don’t already trust them. I have used Paypal since my Ebay Sportcard selling days)
Chris’ Movie of the Week
Nov 19th
No, I am not a movie critic and this won’t be a regular feature, but when I see a movie as good as the one I watched with my wife earlier today, I gotta tell the world. It’s not a new movie, so much of the world (those that get outside) has already seen and know this.
The Movie is The Break-up, with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston.
“When Brooke (Aniston) dumps her boyfriend Gary (Vaughn), neither wants to vacate the condo they share. Instead, they engage in the “ex games” — hilarious acts of psychological warfare aimed at forcing the other to move out.’
This movie is hillarious as well as so true. The arguements between the two of them sounded so much like my wife and I. I recommend this one, it is freaking funny and cute!

THANK YOU, YOUTUBE!!!

All I have to say is thanks!
If you upload videos, you get notifications when someone subscribes to your feed, when someone comments on one of your videos, and when you get a direct message via their inbox.
Youtube has recently changed the emails that come in as a result of these actions that happen. The problem for me was that the email used to just say that someone left a comment and no real details. You’d have to visit the site to see them.
Well, I get 20-30 comments a day on my various videos and I don’t want to spend all day clicking through to read another Apple vs Microsoft bullshit comment.
The new email actually includes the comment text. This is great! I can now read them and only click through to Youtube on comments with questions or something else constructive.
Thanks for this YouTube!
