Forum Revamp & Snafu, Tabletsite.com, and the iPhone Blog

It’s been a very busy last few weeks around here for me. I have been throwing in massive hours to improve my little online home, including reopening a property and getting involved in another. I have had more time on my hands lately to do some much needed house cleaning.

The 1st item of note is the layout of all my sites. Other than Aximsite’s landing page, all my sites have been converted to a new layout that all match and have a familiar logo branding. If you are on one of my sites, you will know it now. My personal blog all the way to Mobilitysite, a uniform look. I’ve put a lot of effort into this, but it might all change when Jelsoft releases Vbulletin 4.0, a complete revamp of the forum software I’ve been using since 2002. Some of the suggestions owners have been making for 4-5 years might finally be answered in this upcoming release.

Next on the list is Tabletsite. I have decided, with the help of Chuong Nguyen and a couple Mobilitysite guys, to reopen this site. Back in 2003/4, I had Tabletsite online, but I was not overall impressed with Tablet PC at the time and my interest dwindled. Now that the tablet world is opening up and there are rumors that Apple and others are working on tablet style computers, it’s a hot topic and one that our collective wants to cover. You might recognize Chuong’s name since he is one of the hard working bloggers over at Pocketnow, he will be running the show over at Tabletsite,

Finally, it should be no surprise that I got an iPhone 3GS by now. What might be a surprise to some is that we have an iPhone Blog at Mobilitysite too. It’s been around for a few months in fact.  Since I wasn’t using an iPhone, I rarely post to the blog myself, but others have splattered some iPhone love into it before I decided to make a little presence over there. Look out for a long series of software reviews to kick off soon over there. I do like iPhone, but I am not sure how I will feel when the “new” wears off. I still support and love WinMo, but her and I need some time apart to learn to appreciate each other.

Last but not least… Our forums. 1.6 million posts, 250k+ members over the years, and still kicking. I have decided to revamp the forums and make some changes. The focus will be on the current models of smartphones out there now. The PPC Forums are not going away, but much of the content is historical record now. I plan to introduce some more features, including user blogs soon. While doing some upgrades, I made a big mistake and almost lost 400k posts. To fix this, I had to ruin some members post history and counts. This might be able to be fixed on a case by case basis though. Not sure right now though. For more info, check the links below.

Finally, GotZune. I am going to merge gotzune’s forums into Mobilitysite soon. In fact, this is what I was doing when I messed up Sunday night and almost lost 1/4 of our posts.

Thanks for reading and thanks to everyone that has been a member of my sites. I really appreciate it and it’s what keeps this hobby fun for me.

    Windows Phone 7 Missing Features?

I just caught a link to a Wikipedia page about Windows Phone 7 from @brentO that shows some missing features at launch. I figured I would give my take on them here. Please don’t expect too much insight as I am not really “in the know” on Windows Phone 7. I am an MVP still, but I have...

I upgraded my network, no more phone line!

I am finally in the “N”. This weekend, I decided to cut the cord on my Directv HD DVR. No, I didn’t quit Directv, I cut the phone line off. I found that I could eliminate the need to have a line connected if I were to network my receiver to net. In order to do this with the particular...

Where have I been spending my online time?

Since I have not been very active in places you’d normally find me like Mobilitysite and YouTube, I figured I would share with any readers I might still have where I can be found when online. As far as keeping my finger on the pulse of the mobile world, I still get 100s of emails with press releases...

My daugher, Brittney, is starting her senior year of high school soon. She has made it this far with all A’s and 1 B. She took the ACT earlier this summer and scored a 26. She has a 2nd test scheduled and since we’re in the south, I don’t think she needs to take the SAT. At least I...

HTC Windows Phone 7 Phone in the wild…

Engadget tipsters sent in this yummy photo: It’s nothing much, but it does show Windows Phone 7 running on a mystery HTC Device. Also noted by the tipster is lack of the custom HTC UI, Sense. In other Windows Phone 7 news, HP doesn’t appear to be interested in doing Windows Phone 7. They...
